Default Pumped locked up on spring startup?

I have a 1hp pac fab that I leave out all winter when the pool is closed. Today when I tried to turn it on it only makes a humming noise. It was working fine last fall when I closed. Also I live in B'ham AL. So temps rarely get below freezing. I drained all the water out of everything before closing so I'm not really sure why it locked up(other than inactivity for 6 mos.) The booster pump for the polaris works fine but the main pump just hums. Any simple steps to correct before I call the pool guy.

    Thanks

Check this thread and the thread that I referenced in one of the posts.

If you can reach into the impeller from the basket and move it then the shaft isn't seized. Before you reach in just make REALLY sure it can't kick on accidentally. If it turns easily then the problem is electrical. Get back to us and we'll chase it further.

Once again I have this forum to thank for saving $$. After reading some post I decided to take apart my pump (@ 8:30pm by flashlight) and was able to spin something not really sure what but when I put back together it started working. Any Idea as to what caused this so I can prevent in the future? Also does this mean my pump is about to fail in the near future? I run my pump 24/7 so starting shouldn't be an issue but I would like to prevent next winter if at all possible.

    Thanks

There is a link in post #5 of the thread I posted above. Here it is.

Read that and it should explain what happened. Me thinks it is simply the starter switch that got cruddy.

When it is running does it sound OK? That is something like a squeal or grinding noise that could indicate a bearing failure ?
