Re: What is non chlorine shocK?
Non chlorine shock (potassium monopersulfate, MPS) will not destry chloramines. It works by oxidizing organics before they combine with the FC. This means that you always have to have a residual of the MPS in the water for it to work right. This info is right from the Dupont Oxone website. They developed and manufacture MPS under the name Oxone! It is more expensive and, IMHO, not as effective as using chlorine to shock. It might be useful in a non stabilized indoor pool but even that is debatable.
It IS useful with bromine to reactivate the bromine bank but plain liquid chlorine does the same thing for less money!
