New Pool Electric

Hello all, a newbe here.

We are getting a 27' round AG pool installed in a few weeks and I am know faced with getting the electric run. I am getting quotes from electricians but I am also considering doing it myself (With my brothers help who is an electrician in a steel mill). I have no doubt that my brother knows his stuff about electricity but all this talk about bonding the pool concerns me. Our pool is the type with the plastic(?) rails and posts. My question is: if we install the electric after the pool is installed, how do I get to the pool frame to do the bonding?

The only reason I am concidering doing the electric myself is seeing some of the prices folks here paid >$2000.00. If I get quotes for anything less than $1000.00 I will probably just have it done, but I just want to have plan B in place just in case.

Thanks Radish, I actually read your thread before I even posted (I have been studying everything I could before I started asking questions). That post is what got me concerned about the bonding. I am worried that once the pool is installed that I will not have access to any of the metal pieces of the pool (everything I can see on the pool is resin). Does this possibly mean that I will not need to bond the pool at all as there is nothing metalic to touch?

I am installing a IG vinyl pool and I faced the same delema. Electricians wanted to charge 2600. So I am doing it my self. My pool has resin walls too. I had to make a bonding grid b/c there was no metal. Code says to run at least #8 solid bare copper in a ring around the pool to make your grid. Jumper all metal to this ie; pieces of metal coping, metal rails , pool light niche, metal ladder and lug on pool motor. I bought a code book from home depot and it explains it pretty well. Lot of info also if you google "pool electrical". Get it inspected if you do it your self. One thing to do to the work but you want to make sure you do it right! water and electricity do not mix. Bonding is running a bare copper #8 from the pump motors boning lug to the pools steel wall. You can attach it to one of the bolts that splice the pool wall together, run it down the plastic post to the motor. The electric for the pump motor must be 5' away fronm the pool with a twistlock(GFCI Breaker), otherwise I think it 10' if using a regular outlet(GFCI). All wires must run in a conduit once leaving the house, NO underground feeder cable allowed.
