OK.
Nobody is on the forum now, so it's unlikely you'll get other answers. You can try TroubleFreePools if you like; not sure what their traffic is now.
About Aqua Genie:
- It is sometimes possible to 'tune' a skimmer and several pool returns to direct a MUCH higher quantity of debris into the skimmer. But it's kind of 'magic'.
- Anytime the pool industry claims something is miraculous, "trouble free", or "no more problems" . . . at best, they are exaggerating so much that it's a functional lie.
- The Aqua Genie might work. But probably only if the PB installs it optimally AND provides good reliable continuous flow
- The Aqua Genie site is telling at least one outright lie: the skimmer basket is NOT oversized, compared to standard POOL skimmer baskets.
- ALL skimmer systems require nearly CONTINUOUS flow to capture a majority of the dirty. Turn your pump off 18 hours a day . . . and NO skimmer system will keep dirt off the bottom.
- In-floor cleaning systems are HUGE energy hogs, and usually fail permanently within 5 years.
Your best bet?
Find an experienced pool builder -- NOT pool salesman -- who has been building fairly plain pools for 10 years or more . . . and get a STANDARD model. (Custom = the builder is EXPERIMENTING on you!) Avoid fancy stuff.
- Electronic control systems are un-serviceable, because the software changes constantly, so NOBODY is 'good' at working on them.
- In-floor cleaning systems are AWFUL, in so many ways.
- Automatic pool covers can work well, but ONLY if you get stainless steel rails and hardware. Aluminum corrodes over time.
- Variable-speed pumps seem to be holding up well. BUT . . . they explode filters when they are turned up too much. Make sure you understand this, and how to avoid it OR get a two speed pump with a switch.
- New pool buyers go for the 'show' and won't pay for underground quality. This has led to a glut of shyster pool builders, who make pools that look GREAT for a year or two, and then become operational nightmares. This is a mistake you will ALWAYS pay for and REGRET
Good luck.
