Default Can I leave my IG pool empty over the winter?

The plan was to paint the 20' X 40' inground (concrete 10 ft. bowl with fiberglass sides) this fall before closing. But it looks like we may have to wait till spring. Been told an empty pool can actually "pop out" of the ground from ground water pressure. Is that true? How much water could I get by with adding back in?

It is ABSOLUTELY true that pools can pop out of the ground:

Carelessly draining that pool cost the community $200,000+, for a much lower quality replacement pool!
