Not sure what's going on, but several posts in a row have the same issue: you're asking a question that has only local answers on a national forum. Pool fashions vary from locale to locale!
I can tell that the trend is toward shallower pools, and away from pools with diving boards. I can also tell you that older teens often won't play in shallow pools without diving boards (though, they will have sex in them). I've seen large commercial pools lose their high school age 'customers', literally overnight, by removing diving boards.
Generally, though, having a pool like the others in your area is important if you are planning to sell and move after a few years, and don't expect to actually USE the pool much. But if you plan to stay and expect to use the pool, the question you should ask is, "What sort of pool would WE enjoy most?"
