You may want to take a look at the salt Pro/Con list here.
If your pool will have natural stone or a heater . . . you might want to rethink using a salt system. They do FAR more corrosion damage than the manufacturers admit. For example, if any of the rebar is a bit shallow, a salt water pool will result in greatly accelerated rebar damage (+ rust expansion = gunite pop-out!). If you ask your builder, he may well say something like, "Oh! We never have any problems with salt! . . . which is not too surprising, given that most builders maintain a relationship with pools they build for the 1 year construction warranty period, and not a day more. Ask to see some salt pools he built FIVE years ago . . . unless you are planning to sell your house and pool sooner than that.
As far as best chemistry, salt changes nothing . . . except adding salt and a tendency for the pool's pH to rise.
