Default Buying a repo house with a non-operable pool?

We're made an offer on a rehabbed home with a pool...problem is that the pool is covered, probably been that way for a really long time...the cover has two huge holes so we can see that the water is completely black, murky, muddy maybe...there's all kinds of debris in it. Is this worth even moving forward with? It's a bank owned foreclosure so the possibility of the bank covering costs for repairs is almost non existent.

We've never owned a pool so this is all new to us. The house is perfect for us otherwise! We really WANT a pool but maybe this one is just too much....please offer any advise you can!

We're scheduling a pool inspection for next week and just want to get any advise we can ahead of that appointment so we know what questions to ask.

    Thanks for your help!!

Do NOT buy, without a LOT more information!

You need to be able to factor in EITHER
    • the cost of removing it, OR
    • the cost of repairing it.

You absolutely should get a quote on removing it: expect to pay for the quote, AND to find that the cost of removal will be surprisingly high.

But to get a meaningful quote on repairing the pool, you MUST get it running and clear. There's simply no effective and complete way to check a pool, including piping, mechanical components and pool surface, without operating it.

You may want to say as much to the bank and suggest that THEY either get it running OR provide a verified pool removal quote. Otherwise, they will ONLY be able to sell he pool to suckers!
