Quick answer:

Your dad's plan was almost certainly better than the "Frog Leap" system. Virtually all such systems cost you more $$$'s and make a mess in the end. "Frog" systems are copper based, and may work for you if
  • You don't mind stains;
  • You don't mind green hair OR, if everyone in your family has dark hair;
  • You are mostly concerned with algae, and don't let non-family members (and non-family GERMS) in your pool very often.
