Hi there! New to this forum and hoping for some help. Just purchased a house with a 30ft above ground pool. Previous owners had not opened the pool in 3 years so needless to say it was a MESS. Leaves, sticks, bricks, etc. The liner is new though and in great shape.
This is where we stand now after a LOT of work!
*Pool is a grayish/light green tint and cloudy. We have never been able to see the bottom
*when a water sample is taken out the water appears crystal clear with no debris - yet the pool still appears light green
This is what we've done:
*Pool was almost completely drained, leaves and all debris removed, and refilled
*algaecide and clarifier used
*floc attempted with no results
*all levels are currently within spec - Alkalinity, hardness, PH, etc. All within perfect range (tested with test strips and brought to 2 stores - both say levels are perfect)
*Chlorine slightly high still from a recent shock
* also attempted a vacuuming even though we can't see the bottom
* replaced all sand in the filter "just in case" we did some serious damage to it with all the crap in the pool (inspected the "arms" at the filter bottom for any damage. All look fine)
This is what we have for a system:
*Proline 22" sand filter
*1 1/2 hp pump
*Standard 1 1/2" lines to and from pool about 6ft in length
*Pool is 30ft - about 21000 gallons
Pool still remains a very light green and cloudy. Cannot see the bottom. When a bucket of water is taken out and looked at - it is crystal clear. No tint, nothing floating in it. Looks perfectly crystal clear.
My thought? The debris/particles left in this pool are so fine that the sand filter cannot filter them out and I am wondering if we should swap to a DE. I wanted to come here for advice first before I spend that kind of money.
Thanks!
Lisa
