Newbie in need of useful information!

Hello,
I hope I can find some answers to the questions I have. We just set up a 16x48 Ultra Frame Intex Pool. I realized after purchase this pool did not contain cleaning items such as a net/vacuum etc. My question is where should I go to purchase these items? And what exactly will I need? Also, we are in the process of filling pool and I'm wondering if we need to add chemicals right after filling? We chose to use our hose, in place of a water delivery because we figured out it'd be cheaper. What exact chemicals do I need to add (what should I get?) This is all new to us, tried doing my own research but everyone has different likings or ways to do this. We have the Krystal Clear Filer Pump this year (plan to upgrade to salt water next year.) The pool holds 5,061 gallons.

Did it come with a surface skimmer? If not, I'd recommend you look at the Intex surface skimmer - It can be a little finicky but will keep alot of debris out of the pool.
I bought a pretty nice extension pole skimmer at WallyWorld that is formed with a thin front edge - it can pick up alot of things on the bottom as well as remove surface debris.
I found the Intex venturi-vac (powered by the hose) inconvienient - I'd add too much water every time I used it. My neighbor was happy with his Pool Blaster battery powered vac. I haven't used one but I've read positive opinions from others.
A brush would also be useful to break up anything that might be clinging to the walls.

The problem is, most folks with Intex type pools do not have an effective vacuum system, and Intex doesn't really have any accessories that are adequate. There are basically two options.

Manual Pool Vacuum:

With the manual option, you can certainly remove the debris by vacuuming 'to waste', using siphon. You'll want to over-fill your pool first, before starting the siphon. Tie some sort of weight to the hose, to keep the 'out-of-the-pool' end from flopping back into the pool and breaking the siphon.

You may, or may not, be able to couple the hose to the suction inlet on your pool. If you can work out a way to do so, then you will not lose the water you vacuum with. You will of course get your filter dirty fast.

If you are interested in the battery vac -- and we've had pretty good reports on this brand -- call Water Tech *FIRST* and make sure that the fine bag will pick up debris like yours. It's possible that it may just go through the bag, so ask first.
