Phosphates don't eat chlorine. Ever.
Algae can cause rapid chlorine loss, and if you lower your phosphates that can slow algae down.
Do this:
1. Go to Walmart, etc. and get a HTH 6-way drops test kit, if you can, if not, get an OTO / phenol red drops kit.
2. While you're out, take a water sample to your pool store and have them test it. Make sure you record the results for chlorine, pH, and stabilizer (CYA).
3. Go home and test your water's pH, and chlorine. If you got the 6-way, test the alkalinity, hardness and stabilizer too.
4. Post the results.
5. Tell us how you are chlorinating now and what you are using.
6. Complete the pool data form:http://pool9.net/pf-pool-form/
