Ok, I was able to solve my own problem.....for some reason my liner seemed to shrink and I was unable to stretch it back into position, which would be up and over the top of the outer wall, then secured in place with a long, flexible plastic clip, then a rigid metal piece on top of that. I tried heating the liner by all of the methods I found on this site (hot water, sunshine, heat gun) to no avail. Finally I purchased some contact cement, applied it to both the inside of the liner and the inside of the outer pool wall, let dry until tacky, then simply pressed the liner against the wall. The liner ended up being about 1/2" short of the top of the wall but I've filled the pool completely and everything is still in place, exactly as it should be. Hope this helps someone.

The lesson here is never completely drain a vinyl pool. The liner will shrink every time. The older the liner the less chance you have of it stretching back into place. Drain down to about a foot and refill the same day. If that won't fix your problem consider a new liner, or at least be prepared to buy one if things don't work out.
