    Default returning metal stains

I have used the vitamin c approach outlined here at the pool forum previously with great success... this year the stains have returned for the third time.

    Default Re: returning metal stains

Metal stain resolution is an multi-step process:

    1. Lower the chlorine level, so stain removal agents can be used; add algaecide to prevent problems while chlorine is low.
    2. Re-dissolve the metal into the pool water, removing the stain. (Ascorbic acid / Vitamin C does this).
    3. Add metal chelant to KEEP metal in pool water, once chlorine is raised.
4a. Enhance filtration to capture metal on filter, once it 'UN-dissolves'.
4b. Use CuLator product to (slowly!) capture metal remaining in water.
    5. Find out how metal is entering the water. (Copper algaecides or ionizer, copper/chlorine blends, deteriorating copper heater core, iron pipes in pool system, iron pipes in supply water system, well water, etc.)
    6. Develop and follow plan to prevent metals from continuing to enter the water.

Vitamin C is only step 2, unfortunately
