Default Hayward Saline C 6.0 Commercial Salt Chlorine Generator

    Hi,
We have a local community pool that I volunteer for. This year we replaced our very simple reliable chlorine system with a Salt based generator. The system consists of two Hayward C6 generators. We can not get the chlorine levels to rise above .5. If we try we get "low salt" messages. We tested the salt in the pool and its at 2500ppm?

I have read where the ORP levels make the traditional chlorine levels obsolete. Unfortunately our township only cares about traditional chlorine levels. Is there a way to make this new system produce chlorine levels high enough to pass the township tests? We have a pool "guy" but he disappeared and we are trying to work through this problem.

    Thanks!
    Ralph

According to the manual (available here: http://www.hayward-commercial-pool.com/pdf/manuals/Saline-C-6-HCSC60.pdf, the minimum salt requirement for that unit is 3500. Note: as a trial user, you'll need to copy the URL into the address bar of a browser.

Thanks for the reply. We are going to add salt tonight. Apparently the cells have to be offline for 24 hrs. I'll let you know what the readings are tomorrow.

It's a long and complicated topic, and not one I'm going to tackle during the peak period, but ORP is a fairly useless water value, with respect to chlorination control on outdoor stabilized pools.

More for my benefit, than yours, I collected below some of the key threads on PoolForum that relate to the topic of ORP/pH control. You're welcome to dig in, if you like.
