Since agglomerating registration notices makes this more visible, I better explain:

Forum privilege level is inversely related to the anonymity of your registration: if I can find out exactly who you are and where you live, it's very unlikely you are a spammer or a pool product internet marketer. On the other hand, the more anonymous your registration info, the more likely you are a spammer, hacker or marketer, and your forum access level is diminished accordingly. Bogus info -- of whatever type -- guarantees a low privilege level.

I do this for 5 reasons:
+ The forum software I use, vBulletin, has never been very secure from attack once a visitor has user access.
+ I have dozens of hacker and spammer attempts daily, BUT
+ I can spend very little time trying to keep these out
+ People who can be named are very unlikely to do things that will hurt the forum, so I can trust them much more.
+ Spammers and marketers deliberately try to act just like legitimate -- but anonymous -- forum users.
