We recently purchased a 24' Intex metal frame pool off craigslist. PO had a Hayward sand filter & pump with a chlorine discharge system, which I didn't reuse the chlorine discharger.
I didn't "want" a chlorine pool due to my wife's sensitive skin, so I decided to go salt... without doing a lot of reading first.
By measurement this pool should be between 12,000 to 15,000 gallons at over 90% capacity. We filled it with our normal well water, added 5 40# bags of pool salt crystals, and the kids couldn't wait to get in. They swam for 2 days before I could get the refill sand for the filter & get it up & running.
Now its day 4, and I have a green pool. Been running the filter all night, and its cleaner of course, but getting greener. AND WE HAVE MY SON'S 7TH BIRTHDAY POOL PARTY ON SATURDAY!!!
We don't have a pool store in our town anymore, so I can't have it professionally tested for about a week until I can get to one.
I now see that I need a salt chlorine generator to use salt. I can't get one right away.
I read that I need to "shock" the pool. Can I just start using chlorine system shock since I'm not using a chlorine generator? Can I add a little chlorine to the water to sanitize it?
Help, Help, Help...
I know I screwed up, now I need your expertise to fix it...
