    MaxFlo XL vs Super pump:

If you compare the data on the 3/4 HP full rate / 1 HP uprate pumps (SP2607x10 vs SP2307x10) you can see that the MaxFlo XL is a bit more efficient.

I'm not sure you realize how much a 2 speed pump will save you. It sounds like you do not have a timer on your pump, so you're operating 24x7 (that's fairly normal in areas with lots of summer rain and thunderstorms to dirty up your pool!) On low speed, pumps typically use about 1/4 the electricity to move 1/2 the water. In your case, assuming a high speed wattage of 640 and a cost of $0.10 per KWH, 6 months of pump operation will cost you ~$280. per year. If, instead, you run your pump on low speed 95% of the time -- 24 GPM instead of 48 -- you'll save about $130 per year.

So, in one year, you'll pay back the additional costs of the 2-speed.
