Default I built my pool in November have a CYA question.

I bought a Taylor FAS-DPD test kit. I can't seem to get a CYA reading at all. I tried letting the water sample get to room temp. I let it mix for 2 minutes one time. My pool says it is 66'f. The pool guy says that put CYA in it, but I can't get a reading. Am I doing something wrong or did they just not put it in?

Most of the time, no reading = no CYA.

However, if the CYA was added when the water temp was > 50 degrees, and there was little or no chlorine present, the CYA may have been bacterially degraded.

You can validate your test process by getting a few granules of CYA, adding them to small bottle or glass, filling it with HOT water and waiting 24 hours, stirring or shaking periodicially. Then, test the water in the bottle / glass. If you get 0 CYA with that test, something's wrong with the testing process.
