Hi and Welcome.
I cannot really help you. I've not heard of Shockite, but of Shotcrete, gunite, pebbletec, tile, etc. The one thing you should do is check out the builder's rep. Check Better Business. Get references from him, not just of new pools but of older ones. From what little I know, some maintenance after 5 years of hard-sided pools is pretty normal, but excessive cracking, peeling, sections breaking off, is not.
Good luck!

. . . Carl, I'm pretty sure he just mis-heard "shotcrete".
@Jim: whether your contractor uses gunite or shotcrete is less important than the quality of his work: you can do a good job with either product, OR you can do a bad job with the same products.

Yeah, it probably was Shotcrete.
We haven't really seen a preference here, have we? And I think we've seen that problems ARE, as you indicated, more likely to be due to bad application rather than the material used.
