Default Need to replace pool heater

Hello! We are looking to replace our existing Hayward H-Series Gas heater (400000 BTU). It is overheating for whatever reason and is looking pretty burnt out on the inside. The pool guy thinks it may be getting too much gas. He feels that it really is not worth repairing as it is over 8 years old and pretty damaged. We use it for heating our spa attached to the pool. We do not heat the pool itself as we don't have a cover. I would like some advice as to which gas heaters are the best, and most suitable for a salt water chlorinated pool. And which one is the best value for the money and most efficient. Also, is solar heat something that we should look into? I don't know if it matters or not, but we have a Hayward pump with Goldline Aqualogic chlorination system. Would love any comments....

Sorry your question was not answered in a timely manner; we've updated your membership.

If you are still looking for a pool heater, the consensus here is that the Hayward Universal series is probably the best option for most people. We usually don't agree that closely on equipment, but the Hayward is well-priced and competitively efficient; the standard model is salt-compatible; service is available throughout the US, and it's fairly compact.

    Here's a complete listing:

The prices at Amazon are not the absolute best I've seen but are quite good, and very close to what I've paid wholesale . . . especially when you consider the free shipping and Amazon's excellent return policy. (There may be differences on the return policy for 'installed' items -- I have not investigated this.)

Remember that if you purchase through Amazon, from a 3rd party seller, there is still a warranty but it's definitely more of a problem to follow through, than with Amazon directly. As of June 2013, these links should go only to heaters sold directly by Amazon.
