Default green algae making me crazy

HI, I know that there are endless posts on dealing with green algae, so I apologize if my question is a repeat. My water is testing correct in both chlorine and pH; I've shocked it and brushed the algae off sides and bottom. Then I started to vacuum, but the green ick is blowing back into the pool by way of the return. I have a new filter in but it's just not filtering out the algae. I read somewhere that I could put a sock or stocking? over the return to help filter the algae out but I can't find where I read it and don't want to break anything. Can someone please advise? Thank you so much in advance.

There's not much of anything that will filter LIVE algae; you have to kill it first.

+ Post your pool info: type / equipment / gallons.
+ Read the "Best Guess" page linked in my signature.
+ If you have a small pool, and can easily drain and refill. read the SS recipe page (link below)
+ If you have a larger pool, you'll need a Taylor K2006 test kit from Amazon to manage your (probably) high stabilizer level. (testkit link below)

Meanwhile, add 2 gallons of PLAIN 8.25% household bleach in the EVENING, for every 10,000 gallons of water in your pool. Get a cheap local OTO test kit ( yellow / red drops) and maintain a DARK yellow to ORANGE chlorine level (not shown on test block) till the pool turns cloudy gray instead of cloudy blue.

Update: I just processed your registration, and looked up your address on Google Maps (address checking is one of the ways I keep out spammer -- only I can see your address info; it's not visible to the moderators).

Anyhow, if the pool shown there is the one you've got, it looks like about a 15' Intex or Summer Escapes. Given your location, I'm guessing water isn't too expensive, unless you are on a well. I'd recommend that you consider restarting with fresh water, and following the SS recipe. Intex type pools do NOT clear up quickly, after the algae is dead. The filter and pump are too small, and take forever to clean up the mess.

Also -- absolutely do NOT use the HTH Green to Blue system -- this is a disaster product for small pools with no vacuum system.
