    Default Slimy Water

Can you tell me if over shocking a pool can make the water slightly slimy?

Not if you were using chlorine . . .

Under-shocking -- or really, just low chlorine levels will result in 'pre-algae' slime.

Read the "Best Guess" chart page, linked in my blue signature block for an explanation of how to determine adequate chlorine levels for YOUR pool.
