Default Trying to identify my skimmer...

I bought my house 8 months ago and the 1985-vintage concrete pool needed some serious help. After spending a king's ransom to have my pool and deck resurfaced, I'm trying to learn everything I need and address all of the small details. One thing I have determined is that my floor drain has no suction. My parents had a pool when I was growing up, first an above ground then an in-ground. On their setup, there was a valve at the filter to control the suction from the skimmer and the floor drain. You could turn suction on from either one, or both at the same time.

My setup here is quite different. The floor drain is plumbed to the skimmer, and I appear to be missing whatever is needed to control suction from the main drain. It appears different manufacturers have different ways of accomplishing this task. I can't tell what I need to make it work because 've been unable to determine the manufacturer of the skimmer and neither has the guy at the local pool store. I can't find a name, number, or anything. When I bought the house, the skimmer was missing the lid, basket, and weir. So I have a universal-fit replacements, nothing remains that can tell me what I've got.

Apparently, I cannot post attachments. I'll have to figure another way to show the pictures I've taken of the skimmer. Hopefully someone here recognizes it.
