    @ PoolDoc: Thanks so much for your help. This is my first time owning a pool and I guess I'm moving a little slowly adding chemicals since I am still learning the process. I will look for the right kits as you have suggested and look into the better cartridges as well.

    Thanks for your reply. The kit I got from Walmart is just a basic kit, not really what I wanted, but I'll find the right one and make sure it measures CYA. Can you tell me exactly which chemical I need to use to effect CYA? That's not included in the three B's right? I promise to continue reading in the forums as I can. Time is a bit in short supply right now, but I am greatly concerned with keeping my pool healthy for my kids, so any quick tips I can get will be appreciated greatly. I am UBER new at this, lol.
