Default New pool is filling up now...so confused on what to do!

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would soooo much appreciate it.

I just bought my first pool in hopes to have it up and running before next weekend and I have serious doubts now. It is all set up and I am filling it up as I type. I have very hard water with heavy iron in it and once I get it filled I am unsure what to do as EVERY single pool place that I have called has told me completely different instructions.

My pool is the INTEX Ultra frame size 22x52 and I also purchased the saltwater system to add to it and have the salt on hand ready to go as well. However, its only about a foot filled so far and already I have brown/orange staining occurring.

The local pool place advised to fill the pool up and only use the cartridge filter pump that came with the pool for right now and add a chemical called "Ultimate Metal Control" by Suncoast Chemicals. He said that it will bind to the iron and make it sink to the bottom and I simply can just use the vacuum to remove the iron. Once the iron has been vacuumed out then hook up the saltwater system and add the salt to the pool and I will be good to go.

Does this sound right? If not, what do I do?

Thanks in advance for any tips, instructions, etc...

Just got my pool installed 2 months ago. After they filled my pool, they put a chemical in the pool. All that brown stuff went to the bottom and they vacumed it out. I should note that when they did the vacuuming, they used their own portable pump so that what ever they vacumed came out of the pool and did not go to my filter system.

Thank you Trey9007! It is almost full now, I had to stop filling it off and on since yesterday but it should be done by tomorrow morning. I hope the chemical that I bought is going to work and I can just vacuum the iron off the bottom. The pool is sooo dark orange/brown right now you cant even see the bottom! I guess I will just play it by ear and hope that I do it right.

    Thanks again!

Colleen, if it works, it works. You're committed to their method at this point, so you might as well try. Whether it will work depends on the details of your water, and on what exactly is in "Ultimate Metal Control by Suncoast Chemicals."

I don't know what's in it, and Pinchapenny has worked pretty hard to make sure I can't find out. So, your best bet, right now, is to follow their recommendations. If it fails, come back to us, and we can help you go another way.
