Default New member- opening with algae

Second year pool owner. Here in Nova Scotia we get a whole 8 weeks of comfortable swim time so I'm looking for tips to quick opening. I spent last summer camped at the pool supply store spending tons of money and still only had clear water a few days here and there. Last fall the pool was closed too early so it's totally green. I would like to try to clear it with bleach and avoid the pool store all together. My question is does the water need to be a certain temperature for bleach to be effective? I know this may be a silly question but after I spent 400 on chemicals last spring the pool store told me the reason it still did not clear was the water was too cold so I had to start over.
