Default First test from pool store

I am back after spending last two months cleaning mud and algae out and using 30 gal. of store brand bleach periodically (as per the good advice of this site). Below are results of tests:

    FC 0
    TC 0
    CC 0
    TA 53
    PH 7.67
    CH 131
    CYA 8
    Copper 0
    Iron 0
    Total dissolved solids 500
    Saturated index -0.33

Have not run filter yet, only vaccumed to waste. Any advice on next step? Have fine silt (or algae) on bottom at deep end and yellow stain around drain. Vinyl is real rough at yellow area. Have a couple of wrinkles in vinyl at deep end on slant wall.

    Thanks, Tex

Did you have a specific question?

I'm not sure what your goals or plans for the pool are. But, I'm amazed you were able to clear up a pool that hadn't been opened in years with only 30 gallons of bleach!

I only put in 10 gal of bleach at a time, over the last three weeks, the last dose was about Friday, 8/17/12. The first five weeks was spent scooping out the mud and algae clump type slime every other day. Though it was a lot of work, I am glad I found the info on this site, since I was not going to be able to afford someone to drain, clean, and refill at the price of 2300 to 2500 dollars. I am wanting to know what to add at this point (bleach, baking soda, borax) to be able to get the level correct so I can start running the filter. If there is the time to still "open" the pool for use, then that would be great. If I need to start thinking about getting the pool to the condition to close it for the winter then I am wanting your advice.

    Thanks, Tex.

I'm not sure what weather is like in your area. We're having one of the coolest August's in memory, so folks aren't interested in pools here. (It was 61 this morning, which is unheard of for Chattanooga in August.)

But if you want to get the water right, you probably better start with a K2006 or at least a HTH 6-way kit, so you can tell where you are.

+ Here are links to the kits we recommend (you can check local availability on the HTH kit, using the Walmart link):
HTH 6-Way Test Kit @ Walmart
    Taylor K2006A (3/4 oz bottles) @ Amazon
    Taylor K2006C (2 oz bottles) @ Amazon
