    Default New User - cjs1970

Just posting my pool information so I can become a general member.

Just purchased a 24' round AG Sharkline Endeavor. It came with "The Frog" mineral filtration system (the main reason I'm here). Those cartridges are expensive, and I'm not convinced that I didn't waste money on the upgrade to the "eco friendly" kit.

Enjoyed reading through some of the newbie threads already and am very interested in the BBB system. I like to keep things simple.

    Welcome to the Pool Forum!

We don't think too much of those mineral-type systems because they add copper and you do NOT want copper in your water. Contrary to popular belief, it is not chlorine that stains nails, hair and pool surfaces green, it is copper!

Although copper does kill algae and inhibits some bacterial growth, it doesn't kill bacteria fast enough to protect people. It also does not kill viruses.

It is our opinion here on the forum, that the Frog is not a system that we recommend using.

    Thanks for your reply.

I was searching the internet because my water started to cloud up a bit yesterday. I found my problem, the cartridge that contains the chlorine tablets is empty. They told me the thing would last a month when I bought it; too bad it's been only 2 week. At the cost of those cartridges it starts to become a real burden for me financially so I am searching for a more economical option for maintaining my pool.

I always had a pool growing up. I remember throwing in a quart of chlorine every day or two; and we never had clouding issues. I'm trying to understand the chemistry a bit more before I just jump in, but I think I want to head down the BBB route. Like I said, I like to KISS.

I am going to buy the test kit you recommend before I do anything, but I have one question. Is there anything special I need to do to take the frog out of my system? I know how to physically remove it, but is there anything special I need to be concerned with? Can I just take it out and start doing the BBB thing?

Thanks again. Great site and forum!

As long as the chlorine is used up, you can just remove it (and re-pipe as needed!)

Be careful about suddenly raising the chlorine level; if you still have copper in the water, sudden high chlorine can cause stains. Raise it gradually, and run your filter 24/7.
