What does this mean: Chlorine went from about 20 ppm down to 2.5 ppm in 16 hrs., with CYA at over 200. CC is .5 ppm. Impending doom, or what???

Well, not doom. But clearly, a lot of chlorine demand.
1. Clean your cartridge, if you haven't done so recently.
2. Add 6 gallons of PLAIN 6% bleach (24 ppm on your pool) via the skimmer tonight (make SURE there are no tabs or other chemicals in the skimmer!)
3. Test in the AM.
4. Today, check by hand for 'slimy' spots on the sides or bottom of the pool.
Let us know.

It's my friends' pool, he has a sand filter. It's a new house for him and the pool is a 20,000 galllon in ground liner pool. I will tell him to just sign on here to learn the BBB method. I was just helping him to avoid an algae bloom while he is getting settled in the new house.
He did order a taylor 2006c kit, but hasnt arrived yet.
