changing to store bought chlorine

I have used granular and tabs for 30 years. Now I hear I can stop mixing granular in a bucket and lugging around 25 ' pails, and just use [store bought no name] chlorine, 5% or +, and just dump it in ??

Can I Still use the 3' tabs, still use the blue stuff and iron rid for crystal clarification? Or is there any changes I need to do first?

You can use PLAIN 6% (ck %) household bleach any time, as a source of unstabilized chlorine, with minimal side effects, compared to all other sources.

Pure trichlor tabls or pure cal hypo briquettes are fine for use; avoid blends.

You'll have to list EXACT product and maker names, for us to help you with other products.

Thanks for the info. I am off to Fleet Farm to buy about 20 jugs of Chlorine. I have used it in the past for chlorinating wells and had no problem. I mixed 1 gal. chlor to 5 gal h2o and poured in about 5 buckets to a well. Killed the iron algae and took the smell right out. Hope it is as easy to use in my pool as in my late 60's, I am tired of mixing granular and slowly pouring to avoid dumping the settled calcium into the pool. Making sure not to raise my hardness over time. Just too much work.
One last thing. The old Blue liquid, [cleating agent] used clear up pools, smelled like butyl rubber, is it still around. Worked great but can't find it anymore.

The 'old' blue liquids (25 years old) I remember were things like "SuperBlue", a polymer clarifier with added food grade thickener to make it seem really concentrated.

yup, Super Blue was what it was called and it worked great.

Polymer is key and I Hope I can find something like it today since it was so effective in getting everything. I mean algae, lotion clay dust, concrete saw dust, and crystal clear pool water was the result.

Yeah. You'll just have to try different brands, and see what works for you. One caution: if you overdose with some clarifiers, they work in REVERSE, preventing fine particles from being filtered.

I will be careful as they are so exspensive, it is hard to just dump them in. I delute, pour around the sides and brush often. making use of every ounce of it. And with the use of Iron Rid in between, it works just great. I will recommend this place to all my pool and hot tub friends. Great place.
2 OZ. to 5000 gal., is just fine for start up, and half that for normal use.
