    Default Can't get under control

    Hello,
Lived in Az for 16 yrs. first 10 yrs had a pool with zero probs, just like described here, just check it keep it balanced and go. Moved 5years ago and new pool has been a pain in the you know what. I went on vacation and got algae. Never happened before, so went to local store. Long story short, I have 2yrs of algae, super shocking, algecides(3 different types), then clarifies. Now algae seems to be gone, but every time I shock each week I get cloudy water for 3-4days. And if I have kids in pool for even an hr it gets yellowish and cloudy, so I shock again and then cloudy for days. I have stopped adding clarifier because it seems like an addiction more than help, but not sure what to do...considering draining and re filling or replacing sand. Any ideas on what to try next?

There's not enough information in your post to allow me to determine why you are having problems. Filling out the Pool Chart, and getting a good kit, and then using it, and THEN telling us what you find will make it possible to help. I'll put links below.

Meanwhile, if you add 3 gallons of PLAIN 6% (check %) household bleach per 10K gallons of pool water EVERY evening, till you reach a DARK yellow chlorine reading on a cheap OTO drops kit AND stop using other goop, except to get your pH between 7.0 and 8.0 . . . you'll usually go a long way toward fixing your problems..

    Ben

+ Here are links to the kits we recommend:
HTH 6-Way Test Kit @ Walmart
    Taylor K2006A (3/4 oz bottles) @ Amazon
    Taylor K2006C (2 oz bottles) @ Amazon
+ It's much easier to answer your questions, when we have the details about your pool in one place. We often 'waste' the first few posts back and forth collecting information. So, please complete our new Pool Chart form -- it takes about 30 seconds, but will save much more than that.
