Default New to site: GREEN Pool... need help fast! I am lost!

To give you a little background or run down of what has been happening:
I manage a small private pool... it's around 40 years old & year after year we continue to just barely keep running, due to age & lack of experience running it (ME -LOL!) It is a 75,000 gallon pool, we have had 100+ temps for 20+ days. We use well water & always have high alkalinity according to health inspector (he says due to the well water, & to costly to control), I used strips to test but changed to a Wal-mart water tester, my chlorine & pH have been running normal, we started to get a slight greenish tinge middle of last week, but normally when I shock the water gets very cloudy for a couple days so, I opted to wait a few more days as had pool party. By Saturday 6/14 getting pretty green, shocked that evening, looked to be improving but was cloudy, Vacuumed Sunday & Monday, Tuesday looked worse again... so then by suggestion I used Algecide, then Wednesday & Thursday Vacuumed again, thought it was improving, Friday-nothing, so then today Saturday 6/21, the pH to high & very green can only see about 8-10" down & water is feeling slimy (Needless to say we closed!) put a "pH minus" in, chlorine level looks to be ok. I am so stressed & we have spent so much money, I am trying to figure out what the next step should be or where to start to remedy the problem!! Please Help!!

I'm sorry, but managing a commercial pool is beyond what we get into in the general forums here. Working with public and private pools over 100,000 gallons is what I did for 25 years, so I'm very familiar with the issues you face.

Much of the information applies, but not all of it, because you have to comply with local codes and inspectors, and because the bather load is typically much, much higher. Unfortunately, the differences are simply not relevant to 99.9% of the people using the forum. Plus, only 1 or 2 people here are even qualified to comment on an operation like yours.

So, you're welcome to read, but during the busy season, that's about as far as I can go.

    Good luck.
