Log out of the forum, go to the forum home page, look in the second section of categories. The first category in that second section is called "pool chemistry for Intex-type pools". Open that, look at the first and second stickies, and they cover how to start up the pools with and without well water. Those should answer most any questions you have, but if you still have other questions or need clarification, come back and post and we'll be glad to help.

we are wanting to do a salt water pool. i looked at the start up information and didn't see anything about salt. is there another forum i can look at for that??

Hm-m-mm. The way you wrote that makes me wonder of you are among the many misled by salt water system marketing into thinking a "salt water pool" is not a chlorine pool. The reason I chose to use the acronym SWCG, instead of what was the more popular SWG, is that salt water systems are actually Salt Water Chlorine Generators, that use electricity to convert salt (sodium chloride) & water into sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl - bleach) & hydrogen.

In other words, with an operational SWCG, you no longer buy chlorine . . . you manufacture it from salt, just like the big companies do. (They do use a different, more efficient, process.)

The ONLY thing you need to do differently for an Intex pool with their SWCG is add salt and turn it on . . . AFTER you've gotten everything running correctly by hand. SWCG's do NOT do well with start up or algae cleanup.

Also, the Intex SWCG has a little hidden bonus -- a copper ionizer. If you don't mind a few stains, and have no blonde haired swimmers, it's OK. The copper help prevent algae, if you let the chlorine get low. But if you don't want the stains, or do have blonde swimmers, you need to disconnect the wire to the ionizer section.
