    Default Pool not clearing-filter question

    Hi,
I have a 16x32 above ground doughboy pool that we bought used a couple of years ago. I'm having problems getting my water to clear this year, mainly due to filter problems I think. The filter is a Doughboy sequel ii model and is roughly 8-10 yrs old. 5 of the 8 grids inside are torn and need replacing. 1 was replaced last year, and 2 of the original 8 are OK, but will probably need replacing soon. So basically I'm operating with only about 50% of the surface area of the grids functioning. All my chem levels are good right now, so I don't think that is the reason the pool is still cloudy. My main question is what to do about the filter. At almost 10 yrs old, is it worth it to spend about $50 a grid x 5 to possibly 7 grids to replace the torn/old ones, or should I just buy a new DE filter? I am looking at Hayward pro grids and Sta-rite sequel 3 filters for In-ground pools, as we have hopes to install an in-ground pool in 5 or so years and I don't want to have to buy another filter then if I get a new one now. I currently have a sequel ii pump that is 2 hp and seems to be running fine. Have had no problems thus far, so i am not planning on replacing that until it goes. Any thoughts or suggestions? Opinions on which filter is best?
    Thanks!

    Doughboy Sequel II manuals:

You'll have to make up your own mind. I do NOT recommend the StaRite System3 hybrid 'de-cartridge' system. The System3 full DE systems are OK.

An inground DE system will typically have MUCH more capacity than your Doughboy.
