Default Muriatic Acid in small pools?

in your Using Muriatic Acid to Safely Lower Your Pool's pH article
    http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthread.php?13111

you say "We usually recommend hydrochloric acid, called "muriatic acid" when sold for commercial purposes, for use instead except on very small pools."
what should i use in my 12'X30" intex pool in IL
I followed the startup guide but now I have PH of 8.4+ and TA 240+-

should I use ph minus or other "pool chem"

    thanks

pH minus = Dry Acid = Sodium Bisulfate. Dry Acid will lower your pH, it just adds sulfur to the pool - OK in small amounts. It's eaisier to handle than Muriatic Acid and in a small pool that wil be drained annually shouldn't become a problem. It's also available in small quantities and requires no special storage arrangements. Less is more - use a little then a little more to creep up(down) on your pH goal. Dissolve it in a bucket of water and add it to the pool and let it mix for a couple hours and test again.

Ben will eventually upgrade your registration so that you can reply and post in the whole forum. We've just been completely swamped with new posters with questions, so he's running a bit behind on the admin stuff trying to help get everybody swimming. You can search and read the forum using the google search link in my sig, but you may have to log out to read the threads until you get upgraded.

OK had MY PH and alk down but I never can keep chlorine in it. I can put a double daily dose of the 62% granulated chlorine per the "Kiddie Pool Chemical Shopping List" and calculator and it never shows up on my HTH test so I give it 3/4 cup of bleach and that works but it is gone the next day

Do you have any idea what your CYA level is? Without CYA in an outdoor pool, it is impossible to keep chlorine in a pool. Do you have a test kit?

Please fill out the information in the following chart. It will help us better to be able to help you.

Also, we suggest getting a good kit. The one we recommend is the Taylor K-2006 or 2006C which you can get through the testkit page in my signature.
