Default Not Opening Pool for the Summer

    Hi Everyone,

We have an IG pool 16x32 vinyl that was winterized last fall. We will not be around this summer and we would like to know if we can leave the safety cover (dark green cover) on and not worry about the pool having issues with the liner shrinking, wrinkling or water maintenance? I've not opened the cover but from what I can see through the fine mesh it looks like the water has dropped dramatically since the winter. We had a mild winter in South Western Ontario - Canada and when I winterized it last year the water level was just below the jets. Now its about another 3-4 feet below that. Should I be concerned? Should I throw in a boat load of chlorine pucks? Do I need to worry about my liner?

    Thank you

Yes, it sounds like your pool is leaking. Empty liner pools tend to collapse. And, if the shallow end is dry, there's a good chance your liners is already toast.

By the way, snow on mesh covers can break them, if the water is more than about 18" below the cover.

    Sorry.

    Good luck!

    Thanks PoolDoc,

    I took pictures.
I'll try to get them online. But I think the liner is toast. I've added about 6" of water came back the next day and it was down again. It's okay really, I'm due for a new liner any ways 15+ years old liner. My issue now is what type of liner I should get? Is thicker better?

    Cheers
