That sure sounds like pretty low amperage for such a high GPM. What make/model of pump is it?
Pond pump for pool?
I currently have a 30' round above ground pool with a Hayward power-flow LX 1.5 h.p. pump and a Dream Line high rate sand filter. The pump is rated @ 12 amps. I also have a 3000 gallon Koi pond. The external pump I am going to buy for the pond to replace two submersible pumps flows 7750 GPH and is rated at 3 amps. I was thinking of buying two of them and replacing my pool pump with one. Do you think it would be a problem doing this? Thanks for any replies.

If you can afford a swimming pool and computer, you can probably afford to help keep the PoolForum alive. Please be a responsible member and subscribe today. You'll probably save more than the membership fee on your first trip to the pool store. BTG

For some reason I can't find the catalog I was looking in but just doing a quick search online I found the Performance Pro Artesian2 ModelA2-1/2-C. 1/2 HP 3450 rpm 3.3 amps @6660 gph. Most pond pumps that I have found run way cheaper than pool pumps I'm just not sure if the flow is good enough for a high rate sand filter. Not sure how to post links but I found it @ Koi Market.com.

Pond pump output pressure is generally way too low to drive the water through a filter. Better check the pump curves, before you pull the trigger!
