Last year the pool place said I should use it after having my water tested. Last year I had to top off using town water. I do have faint black stains in some areas, but I think that's algae. I do want to open for this weekend, and want to shock and get my chems where they should be so it will be ready. All last year my water was clear, so I never used the metal magnet, but this year I remembered what the 'guy' said and used it. 2 32 ounce bottles, because I have 25,000 gallons. How long do I have to wait before I can shock it and get this show on the rode? I wish I never added it.

If you don't have metals, it doesn't matter, with one exception: do NOT use calcium hypochlorite to shock.

The shock that I have is Sodium hypochlorite. Is that ok? The filter has been running 24/7 for 48 hours and I have backwashed twice after vacuuming, and will backwash once more before I shock. Thanks.

Sodium hypochlorite is just bleach -- it's fine.

I'm curious, what would happen if he did shock with cal hypo?

Depending on how cal hypo was used, it could create a high chlorine zone that would degrade the phosphonate in the sequestrant, and release the metal. Following label directions, you tend to end up with cal hypo on the pool bottom, where that process would cause NEW stains.
