When I turn the pump off, to my above ground pool, it shoots out water thru the skimmer box? Does anyone know why it would do this? It works fine when its on.

Most likely, you have some air trapped in the filter. Dunno why, though.
If you want to send photos of pool, pump, filter, and skimmer to poolforum@gmail.com, we might be able to come up with a better understanding.
