Have you taken the top off the multiport, and looked?
It's pretty easy to do. The only trick is that the multiport valve is spring loaded, so you have to keep pressure on the valve top, as you disassemble it. Do NOT take ANY of the bolts out till you have loosed ALL of them. Also, loose them ALL a little before you loose any of them a lot.

By the way, the gasket is glued in; don't mess with it unless you really have to do so.

I have the same problem, does anybody know if this is affecting the operation of the valve/pump??? I changed the spider gasket with the same result, o-rings on the shaft? I thought it was pebbles in the pump basket but further investigation proves to be the American multi-port valve, any help out there?
