    Default ecopoolpump vs pentair

The PoolForum and PoolDoc recommend against the purchase of SpectraLight, EcoPump, Leaf Pump or ZeoPure products, or any products sold on websites affiliated with the email address info@spectrauv.com, or the parent company name "SpectraLight Technologies". Due to legal threats, we cannot say more at this time. No further discussion of these product lines is allowed. Somewhat more information is available on in this post.

I recently bought a house which had a working Hayward super pump with 2 HP WEG motor on it. The motor is dead and I am planning to replace entire pump instead of just motor since motor is more than half the cost of pump. I came across ecopoolpump .com and whisperflow. I need some suggestion regarding the claims made by Ecopoolpump that their motor/pumps uses fractional kw compared to others. Appreciate you help!

Thank you both for reply. Yes I have a spa with jet and the existing pump is 2 HP hayward super pump. The pool size is rectangle 12 x 24 (i think) . I haven't measured the depth yet so I have no clue about the gallons used. I came across magnolia site which had the intellflo for $800 and they claim no extra control needed since all the controls are on board. At this point I am planning to get Energy Efficient (no idea what it is) whisperflo pump 1 1/2 HP for $450 installed. Unfortunately the energy company in Miami doesn't offer a penny rebate, while elsewhere companies are offering upto $600.

Is the Whisperflo a two speed? If not, it won't be very efficient no matter what anyone has told you.

If you get the Intelliflo 011018, it won't require an external control but the Intelliflo VS-3050 011013 does require external control to change speed.

OK. I need to be careful! I'm finding these:

011012 IntelliFlo VF => IntelliFloŽ VF High Performance Pump
    011013 IntelliFlo VS-3050 => IntelliFloŽ VS+SVRS Variable Speed Pumps
011017 IntelliFlo VS SVRS => IntelliFloŽ VS+SVRS Variable Speed Pumps
011018 IntelliFlo Variable Speed Pump => IntelliFloŽ Variable Speed Pump

P6E6VS4H-209L IntelliPro Variable Speed Pump => IntelliProŽ Variable Speed Pump
    P6E6Y4H-209L IntelliPro VS-3050 => IntelliProŽ VS+SVRS Variable Speed Pump
P6E6XS4H-209L IntelliPro VS SVRS => IntelliProŽ VS+SVRS Variable Speed Pump

all linked off this page: http://www.pentairpool.com/pool-pro/...nground-43.htm

We need a comparison chart for these beasts, so mods and contribs can make good recommedations.

The VS-3050 does not have the SVRS. This is the way I would show it:

011012 IntelliFlo VF => IntelliFloŽ VF High Performance Pump
011013 IntelliFlo VS-3050 => IntelliFloŽ Variable Speed Pumps - Old Version
011017 IntelliFlo VS SVRS => IntelliFloŽ VS+SVRS Variable Speed Pumps
011018 IntelliFlo Variable Speed Pump => IntelliFloŽ Variable Speed Pump - New Version

P6E6VS4H-209L IntelliPro Variable Speed Pump => IntelliProŽ Variable Speed Pump - New Version
P6E6Y4H-209L IntelliPro VS-3050 => IntelliProŽ Variable Speed Pump - Old Version
P6E6XS4H-209L IntelliPro VS SVRS => IntelliProŽ VS+SVRS Variable Speed Pump

The old VS-3050s are not shown on the Pentair web site anymore but you can still buy it in some locations although since the new VS costs the same, I don't think anyone should go that route.

I'm not sure if I understand -- are you saying that there are two VS-3050's, and that one of them is no longer there?

Because there is a VS-3050 on this page:
    http://www.pentairpool.com/pool-pro/...d-pumps-76.htm
    right now (30 Mar 2012)

Ok, I think I understand your confusion. Pentair is phasing out the VS-3050 (011013) and is being replaced by the new "IntelliFloŽ Variable Speed Pump" (011018). They have removed most of the VS-3050 information from their pump page listing and only is shown on the "Specs" tab of the VS+SVRS which I think is an oversite. But even thought VS-3050 shows up on that one page, the VS-3050 is a different pump than the VS+SVRS. They have different interfaces and different feature sets.

So here are the current website links to each pump

011012 IntelliFlo VF => IntelliFloŽ VF High Performance Pump
    http://www.pentairpool.com/pool-pro/...ce-pump-77.htm

011013 IntelliFlo VS-3050 => Is not shown on the pump page listing anymore (except for the VS+SVRS "Specs" tab)
But you can find the manual here: http://www.pentairpool.com/pool-pro/...ction.php?s=42

011017 IntelliFlo VS SVRS => IntelliFloŽ VS+SVRS Variable Speed Pumps
    http://www.pentairpool.com/pool-pro/...d-pumps-76.htm

011018 IntelliFlo Variable Speed Pump => IntelliFloŽ Variable Speed Pump
    http://www.pentairpool.com/pool-pro/...d-pump-430.htm

This brochure shows all four pumps:

This listing may help as well:

On the forums, I have only heard of a couple of failed drives but not many given the number of owners of the Intelliflo. It seems to be fairly reliable but I too have my concerns about the high power drive electronics. VFDs have been around for a number of years for other applications and have shown good reliablity although most are indoors or in a NEMA outdoor cabinet so this application is a little bit different. I guess only time will tell.
