Default Considering a house with in ground gunnite pools, what do I look for?

We are looking into a number of houses with in ground gunnite pools. Both in consideration look to be sound. I know nothing about pools, so what do I know.

Can I get some idea on what to look for and/or avoid in an existing pool .

One pool seems to be a rather recent addition (within the past 10-years) (guessing) with the pump and filter recently replaced, was full, and operating.

The other is constructed indoors, in a seperate building, at the same time as the existing house in the 1960's. The pump and filter may be 20-years old (guessing) with the heater, and furnace being older.. This pool was empty.

    Thanks,
    Kurt

    Two things:

+ Call the local pool wholesaler (probably SCP -- South Central Pool Supply) and get a recommendation for a knowledgeable service guy. Hire him to inspect both pools.

    + Budget
-- $1,000 for first year expenses if the pool condition is good. If not, add that sum to whatever he tells you need repairs will run.
-- $6,000 within 5 years for repairs on the 40 year old pool and equipment . . . if everything is OK.

An empty gunite pool will float out of the ground. With Heavy rain & ground water ,unless the bottom drain plugs are removed ..
