    Default In Line Chlorinator Issues

    Hi Everyone,

I just recently moved to central Florida and have an 11000 gallon Gunite pool with a DE filter.

Recently, the chlorinator stopped filling with water, and it worked fine when we moved in, but if I go out there everyday and unscrew it until water over flows and re-cap it, it will work fine.

Today, I replaced the chlorinator and the cartridges in the DE filter and still nothing.

If it helps, it is a pentair 320 in line with 3" chlorine tabs and my pump is a purex triton pns plus model 36.

I dont know if it is the check valve, or if there is even one in place, if there is its underground and I cannot see it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I've seen that happen when the chlorinator was installed backwards, and also when there was a suction leak that was constantly introducing air into the pipes.

You could check for that. If it's not one of those two things, you might want to email photos of your pump, filter, chlorinator, & piping to poolforum AT gmail DOT com.

Is there anyway to check the pipes I cant see??

All the pipes that are exposed are good.

when I need to back wash when my pressure is up, my inline chlorinator will not fill up. Mine needs the psi to be under 20 for it to work correctly. After a filter cleaning with new de I usually run 8 psi.

you may want to try cleaning your de grids and see if the increased circulation fills the chlorinator.

I see the same thing with my Hayward CL-200 inline chlorinator. When you take the lid off the water drains out. With the lid on the chamber is filled with air with no place to go. That is, no bleed mechanism. The thing will fill with enough water to work as the pressure in the pipes at the chlorinator will compress the air bubble some and let it work.
