Default New & Trying to Clear up newly installed pool

My pool went up Saturday and the fire department finished filling it Sunday night. That night I added 3 bags of shock to the green water. Yesterday morning the pool was green and there was rust all over the ladder. I added algacide in the morning and then Metal Out last night. This morning I can see the bottom but it's still green. I will test the water tonight, but I'm not sure if I should add something to it now or just let it filter throughout the day and see if the green will go away.

Hi sancie67 and welcome to the forum!

What was the water source for the water they brought? Well water? Let your filter run and post some current numbers this evening. Tell us what kind of pool it is, the volume, what type of filter when you post again.

If adding chlorine caused green water to deposit rusty brown stuff on the pool bottom, you've got iron in the pool.

Short answer (you'll need a long one later):
#1 - Get a chlorine compatible liquid metal control agent for pools and FOLLOW label instructions on dosing -- do NOT over dose!! Best to get this from a pool store because the Aqua-Chem stuff that now seems to be at all Walmarts and Kmarts is junk.
#2 - Get some polyquat 60 (see www.poolsolutions.com/gd/polyquat.html ) and add a treatment dose -- follow later with maintenance doses.
    #3 - Run your filter 24/7
#4 - Tell us what sort of pool you have (gallons / pump / filter) and whatever test results you have.

The metal product will help keep remaining metal dissolved; the polyquat will help keep your pool from getting algae while we work this out.
