    1 lb. is only going to give you about 13ppm of CYA. 3 lbs. would take you to around 40. I think I'd wait to add the CYA. If you are fighting algae, you may be backwashing frequently and will just throw the CYA out. Shock the pool up to 15ppm and try and hold it there to try and get rid of the algae. According to Ben, black algae is REALLY hard to get rid of.
