Stand alone chlorine generation is not new.

However, the companies I know about that were making units that 20 years ago are no longer in business. One of the major issues has been that most of these units can malfunction and make chlorine gas.

I hadn't heard anything about the chlorine geni unit, but I'd advise against it for the following reason:
1) there's no technical data available, just flashy videos.
2) the domain "thechlorinegeni.net" was registered in Sept 2008, so you are dealing with 2 1/2 year old company.
3) the registration is a concealed registration, that make the company info unavailable. This is reasonable thing with personal domains, but I don't recommend doing business with companies that deliberately make it hard for you to find them.
4) 5 year warranties offered by 2 year old companies are intrinsically deceptive.
5) Essentially, they are being made in a garage:

Bottom line: there's not enough info for you to make an informed judgement about the units, but there is enough info for you to know that you will be an 'early adopter', and thus will be 'experimenting' with a product being developed and marketed by a new company.

If you like being a guinea pig, go for it.

Actually, since I wrote this in response to your email, I discovered that this is an OLD, grizzled system, that's been renamed several times. The risk of chlorine gas and difficulty of disposing of used brine characteristic to those units applies, but I can't tell you how well this unit handles those risks.
