    Default Algae ! Algae! Algae

Our problem first started with not getting the pool covered for winter ( western PA ). The in ground pool lines were winterized. The pool is 20' X 40'.
Second problem occurred when the pool pump failed.... so no filtration until just a week ago.
The algae growth is just unreal at this point !
I did contact a chemical company that has a 15% concentration of sodium hypochlorite.
Is this too much for shocking the pool ?
What harmful affects may this present?
We were applying a 10 parts per million to solve this problem.
    Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Give us some more info about your pool please. We need volume, type of filter, size of pump, current set of water testing results taken with a drops-based kit. Also, tell us exactly what all you have put in your pool -- meaning ingredients. Then somebody here can try and help you get this cleared up. Welcome to the forum!

    Hi Jcin. . .

Whether you use 6% household or 15% industrial bleach doesn't really matter, though the household bleach is more likely to STILL be at its rated strength. End concentration of chlorine is what matters.

Whether it should be 10 ppm or not depends on your stabilizer level. Read the best guess page, linked in my signature.
