Default How would you backfill this (picture included)

Our property is sloped and I've read many things on here about backfilling with dirt. Well, our pool is sunken about 2 feet and my husband doesn't want to have to dig it all back up when we eventually need a new liner. It doesn't really need to look pretty...I just would like the simplest easiest solution. We will be decking over almost half the pool where it is sunken. Suggestions please

    Thanks

I guess my thinking is, if looks don't matter, and you are going to cover it all with a deck, why do anything further? Why not just leave the dirt where it is? But, I'm no AG pool expert.

But I would think we would need a retaining wall. wont all that dirt and shale eventually wash towards
    the pool.

Yes, that 12" of dirt *may* eventually fall towards the pool wall. You should dig another foot out horizontally from where the dith is now, widening it to about 2-feet. Then clean the ditch down to the pool wall bottom. Every spring get on your hands and knees under the deck with a small hand-pick and shovel and throw the dirt out that fell down against the pool wall during the winter rains. If you don't want to do that, and don't mind putting up another pool in 10 years, then let it go like it is.
And that ain't no sunken pool in a hole that needs any retaining wall :-) Are you kidding me? This (last picture) http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthr...ol-quot-thread Is a Sunken Pool with RETAINING WALL!

you can fill the trench with riverrock or pea gravel- will allow for drainage with erosion around the pool, and all the dirt won't wash in...
but as stated, you can just leave it... eventually the bottom of the pool may start to corrode, but my AG for instance is buried 3 foot on one side and about 6 inches on the other!
