But, no, that's not needed. White PVC does deteriorate some over a period of years -- but your other gear will fail first!

Just put my filter together today and I have been told I should paint all my white PVC black to protect it. Does anyone do this or should I just stick to the standard white?

Painting it black will make it get hotter--and that's not good for Schedule 40 joints. PVC is rated to handle pretty high pressure, but not for hot water. PVC is also really cheap and easy to work with so why paint it?

Thanks for the responses and to be honest I agree, but my neighbor insisted on painting them black.
